"Drums Around the World"

Over the centuries, people across the globe have developed thousands of percussion instruments, ranging from simple click sticks to booming bass drums to melodic marimbas. In this "edu-tational" program, Pete Fairley shares stories and sounds from many different cultures. Participants will discover the wide variety of percussion that is employed in world music, and learn about techniques unique to particular musical styles. They will also be entertained by traditional stories told to the accompaniment of the instruments featured in the tales. The session concludes with a short drum circle, where everyone is invited to pick up an instrument and express their own internal rhythm!

"Rhythm Games"

This workshop, booklet, and CD features thirteen sets of exercises developed by Pete Fairley to help improve anyone's percussive skills. Each "game" includes background information and a series of exercises. The exercises start simple and become progressively more challenging. Some exercises focus on hand drumming, others apply to stick drumming as well. Some exercises emphasize specific rhythms from specific cultures, others develop more generalized skills useful in any style of music. Contact Pete if you would like to arrange a workshop. The booklet and CD set are available from this website via PayPal.
